THE OLD GHAN

The Old Ghan is on static display at the Old Ghan Museum in Alice Springs. It ran from Port Augusta via Oddandatta and Marree to Alice Springs and closed down not ten years ago when The New Ghan took over with a new more direct route and a new track through to Darwin.

THE GHAN

The Ghan is a huge draw card running from Darwin to Adeliade (vice versa). Mark and Delma as the Footplate Padre travelled on The Ghan from Darwin to Alice Springs.

REV CANON TOM SLOCKEE

Tom Slockee was the Aboriginal Anglican Pastor in Moruya (where we lived for 14 years) so it was a great delight to catch up with Tom in Darwin. Mark even did an Australian Missionary News IPTV with Tom who looks over Aboriginal congregations in Darwin, Kakadu and Arnhem.

KATHERINE GORGE

The Ghan has a five hour stop over at Katherine where various 3 hour tours are available. We took one of the Katherine Gorge tours.

BRAZIL FILM CREW

Brazil Film Crew were on The Ghan doing a doco of The Ghan - they filmed Mark and Delma - eating in the dining car, the lounge car, their cabin with Delma reading and Mark on lap top, walking the carriage isle, outside the carriage, to the locomotive .... all in Portequese.

KAKADU

Kakadu was all that it's been promoted to be. This was on the Yellow River - part of the South Alligator River zone - it's all water. We also had time at an Aboriginal Homestead (5-6 family) communities throughout the Kakadu and Arnhem Land.

REAL LIVE CROCIDLE

The Yellow River at Kakadu was plentiful with Crocidiles. Yes, this photo was taken with a digital zoom lens! Mark wasn't going to get close up and friendly.

ROAD TRAIN TO KAKADU

Delma took this photo of a road train as we drove to Kakadu - bit frightening!

MARK'S FAVOURITE CAR

Citroen DS is Mark's favourite car and was delighted to find it on display at the Qantas Airways 1935 'men's shed'. Mark has always been fascinated with the Citroen DS. Yes, it's on his imaginative 'wish' list.

BURNETT HOUSE

Burnett House has been restored to its pre Darwin bombing state. This photograph shows it after being straffed.

REV DR PETER CHRISTOFIDES

Peter Christofides is a Greek Cypriot from South Africa, pastor Casuarina Baptist (Darwin) who discovered Darwin is the 2nd largest Greek city outside Greece and has a ministry to the Greek community through AusHelp as a volunteer.

WINTERSUN

Coolangatta's WinterSun Fesitval on the June long weekend (old cars and rock'n'roll) was huge. David Chang Christian Today Australia was our guest.

MISSIONARIES

Mark met with Tim Wilson (left) YWAM and Steve Bazel SIM. Tim runs a sports module scourse in the YWAM International School of Discipleship while Steve heads up Sports Friends an SIM international sports program.

AIS CRICKETERS

Mark's annual talk on Respite to the AIS Cricketers included viewing the Basil Sellers and Margaret Court video interviews which both featured Respite.
