E-BLAST - 27 OCTOBER 2013

Laguna Quays Respite - each day 7.00am we take a beach walk along Midge Point beach - always something new. Wed morning we took a photo of these sand markings of sea urchings - magnificent, remarkable, astonishing, so creative !! We are here at Laguna Quays Respite til Friday 8 Nov, then to Sydney. We have already done fresh touch-up paint for the lounge and kitchen walls. There were wear and tear marks on the walls - now it looks great!

CAR PORT BBQ

When we arrived on Tuesday it was the first occasion we had seen the finished car port - we set about to move the bbq to the car port along with the chairs, and now three glass tables.

There is a lovely on-shore breeze which keeps it cool under the Whitsunday sun. There is a ramp onto the concrete base which allows for easy access for any item being moved to and fro.

GLASS TABLES AND BBQ

Car port bbq - glass tables, bbq and chairs - it has a great on-shore breeze, wonderful view of Repulse Bay from the car port and under the car port it is amazingly cool although warm outside. Sean Spencer said the bbq was donated to him and he fixed it up for this respite use.

The area if light and breezy, the concrete base the aluminium roof keep the wet weather at bay. Basil Sellers gave the funding for this remarkable attribution to the Laguna Quays Respite.

DISTANCE FROM COTTAGE

The car port bbq area is a short walk to the cottage - we had the art class ladies over on Thursday and they were mezermised by the car port with its sea breeze, coolness, ocean view and beautiful surrounds. The area is 6 metres by 6 metres.Next Saturday 2 November 5.00pm-7.30pm is the inaugurial Midge Point Christian fellowship bbq being held in the car port.

NEW LOUNGE LAGUNA QUAYS RESPITE

Basil Sellers suggested we do something about one of the lounge chairs with tape over the tears in the leather which he dubbed the 'band-aid' chair.

Then we heard that (Terry) and Cathy McMullin's widow mum had a beautiful 3 seater lounge in Mackay and this was delievered to the respite cottage along with a very large soft single lounge chair ideal for reading and dozing!

DELMA CHECKS WITH SALLEY

Delma sent this photo to Salley of her new look hair style for Salley's careful examination and determination as to whether it would be suitable as the 'mother of the bride' on 1 March next year.

Consultation is the name of the game when it comes to 'mother of the bride' wedding planning. Mark said he will no doubt have to consult as to which tie to wear with his suit and shirt for the all important march-down-the-isle.

MICHAEL KENT CLEANS UP LQ YARD

Michael Kent assists the Laguna Quays Respite project - mows the lawns, poisons, whipper-snips, does little jobs with his mini-tractor and last week cleared away the spare aluminim roofing from the car port and the timbers from the concreting. A few months ago Michael gave Delma and me a tour of the Laguna Quays Resort which has now been sold to Chinese interests. The community looks forward to the resort being bought back to its zenth.

TREVOR BEARD A RESPITE HELPER

Trevor Beard is a former submariner then a banker followed by a serious motor bike accident. Trevor lives next door to the Laguna Quays Respite, he waters the garden, takes the car for an occasion run and helps out where possible. A good talker, Trevor chit-chats with the missionary visitors. Delma says that because he speaks very loudly (submariner) and she being partially deaf, she can hear what he says. Trevor is a grand-dad and when we're there, we share grand-parent stories.
