E-BLAST - 2 APRIL 2017

Cyclone Debbie Whitsundays 25-31 March - photo - Laguna Quays Respite cottage was out of the Midge Point flood zones but faced the full brunt of the cyclonic winds and intense pouring rain. All roads closed, no power, no internet, no iphones. Mackay Emergency sent in a helicopter on Wed 29 as food was running low. The concern was the torrential heavy duty rain getting into the cottage through the widow edges, under doors, etc. Spoke to Karl (Wendy) yesterday - no damage to cottage or car port bbq area. Inside seems good. Kim Hanson editor of the local online mpbnews said last time (Yassi 2011) power was out for 11 days. Tomorrow (Monday) Will and Margaret Pearce (opposite and who run the Calen Church) are going inside to do an audit and fix anything. The 5 fox tail palms along the front are good. I've kept Mr Basil Sellers posted noting the tight strong construction and he responded: "The little cottage did well" - so true!

E-BLAST - 19 MARCH 2017

Tweed Heads Chamber of Commerce Tues breakfast - Salvation Army - Red Shield Appeal. Mark is a regular at the monthly breakfast and has had many businessmen come to Timeout in the Tweed for a one-to-one chat over these past 11 years. One subject was Sunday penalty rates - here's a dozy - how does this affect the clergy preaching Sunday mornings?
